The application is for smallholder farmers and pastoralists who want to learn and practise easy-to-apply regreening techniques that will help them to restore their land and improve their yield and/or pasture.

The regreening techniques you can learn in the app are mainly Sustainable Land Management practices. On the “Learn” screen, you will discover topics about regreening methods with theory lessons, quizzes and how to apply them on your land.  Some of the topics you can expect are:

  • Introduction to Kijani
  • Treecovery
  • Zai Pits
  • Mulching
  • Contours and slopes
  • Water harvesting trenches
  • Grass barrier strips
  • Composting
  • Water harvesting bunds
  • Intercropping
  • Dryland fodder

Some of these courses are still in development, but will be published soon. We will also be adding more courses that are helpful for pastoralists.

All the topics are taught by experienced digital champion farmers, who will explain each step and teach you all the tips and tricks you need to get started. These are all proven, successful techniques, mostly developed in Africa by Africans.

Except for spending a little bit of mobile data to download the app and courses, you can use your own tools to practise the techniques. Everyone can do it!
